Jasper teens help Team Texas Claim 8th straight national rodeo trophy

Three Jasper County youngsters competed in the National High School Rodeo Association Finals in Gillette, Wyoming, recently, along with 1,785 entries representing all 50 states and seven countries.

Jasper High School senior Sam Shofner finished 13th overall in steer wrestling. Shofner and fellow classmate Cole Pugh competed together in team roping and recorded a personal best time of 5.64, which was good enough for 30th.

Brookeland High School junior Harley Odom competed in the light rifle competition and managed a personal best and a 22nd ranking.

The trio helped Team Texas to win the Overall Trophy for the eighth consecutive year.
