Lamar University recorded nearly 500 yards of total offense, including 297 on the ground, to defeat Lincoln University, 38-0, on Sept. 23 at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont. The victory, Lamar’s first since defeating Nicholls late last season, marked the first win of the Pete Rossomando era and was also the first Cardinal shutout since the 2014 season against Texas College (73-0).

LU’s defense was just as impressive as the offense holding the Oaklanders to just 106 yards, with only 26 of that coming through the air.

Junior Robert Coleman was deliberate in how he picked apart the Lincoln defense completing 15-of-19 (.789) passes for 192 yards and two scores. Coleman connected with seven different receivers led by four catches for 60 yards from Major Bowden. The two touchdown passes were hauled in by Andre Dennis and Izaha Jones.

Classmate Junior Khalan Griffin led a ground attack that imposed its will on the defense. Griffin had 12 carries for a season-high 117 yards and one touchdown. He averaged nearly 10 yards per carry.

Senior Foday Jalloh led the Cardinals with a team-high eight tackles, including one for a 15-yard sack. Blake Gotcher was second on the team with seven tackles and a sack.

The game wasn’t cleanly played on either end as the two teams finished the night with 19 penalties for over 200 yards, including included a handful of offsetting penalties.

Lamar (1-3) will look to clean things up and make it two in a row Saturday, Sept. 30, as they with the Southland Conference opener at Houston Christian (2-2, 1-0) at 6 p.m. The Cards lead the all-time series, 4-3, but have lost the last two games.

While their five consecutive shutout streak came to an end, the soccer team was able to extend their winning streak to six as they put up three first half goals enroute to a 4-1 win over Houston Christian on Sept. 22.

Scoring goals were Alana Clark, Arely Alaniz, Kamryn Harvey and Isela Ramirez. Hollie Massey recorded three assists.

LU is 2-0 in league play, 7-2-1 overall, and will next travel to Nicholls (1-10, 0-2) on Friday, Sept. 29, and Southeastern Louisiana (3-6, 1-1) on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m.

De’Andre Miller was named the men’s basketball director of operations announced head coach Alvin Brooks on Sept. 26. Miller replaces Aaron Proctor who served in the role for the previous two seasons.

Miller comes to Southeast Texas after spending the previous three seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. During that time, Miller held several roles including assistant coach, athletic events manager and manager of operations/assistant director for the Mayborn Campus Center.
