It was an overwhelming success in every capacity as Texas Karate Academy (TKA) held their first Samurai Showdown June 11 as more than 200 competitors from Austin to Baton Rouge filled Wesley Methodist Church.

TKA had 36 students compete, which resulted in 29 first-place awards, nine second-place awards, and 15 third-place finishes.

Football championships head back to Arlington

All University Interscholastic League (UIL) football state championship games will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the next two years, including the 11-man and six-man football championship games. 

The new schedule places all 12 games in a four-day span, from Dec. 14-17.

The Lamar University athletic family lost a dear friend Friday with the passing of Charline Dauphin at the age of 86.
