Former Beaumont ISD attorney Melody Chappell

While she says it isn’t set in stone – at least not for another month or so – former Beaumont ISD attorney Melody Chappell has tentatively announced intentions to run for the elected office that will be left vacant as Jefferson County 172nd District Court Judge Donald Floyd retires at the end of his current term.

It was business as usual. No long good-byes. No bidding adieu with endless platitudes. But the Beaumont ISD Board of Managers lost three members as Board President Jimmy Simmons and members Lenny Caballero and Jack Carroll served for the last time in their official capacity during the district’s Wednesday, July 19, monthly meeting.

“With great sorrow,” Manager Joe Domino moved to accept the three members’ resignation – and that was that.

The Beaumont Police Department has confirmed there was an alleged aggravated family violence assault reported by the wife of former Beaumont ISD electrician Calvin Walker the evening of Monday, July 10, but did not report an arrest connected to the incident.

Former Beaumont ISD electrical contractor Calvin Walker will be required to face state prosecution alleging he defrauded the school district and the city of Port Arthur, according to a ruling by the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS), as the court’s justices this week refused to entertain pleadings by Walker and his legal counsel that the cases pending against the defendant should be quashed before ever being heard by a jury of his peers. Walker is set to appear before Jefferson County Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens on June 5.

According to Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Cory Kneeland, a March 15 indictment on one count of third-degree felony theft has been dropped against Beaumont Independent School District special education teacher Alisa Boutte. Kneeland said the prosecuting agency came into information that caused the District Attorney’s Office to drop all charges the week of March 27.
