The last time Zechariah Turk made the news was last year when he saved a young family from drowning after their sailboat overturned in rough waters off Crystal Beach. This time he’s making headlines for another reason - Zech is a recipient of a Texas Crab Festival Charities educational assistance scholarship.

Bri Bagwell will perform at the Stingaree in Crystal Beach on Friday, Nov. 25 beginning at 7 p.m.  Though she was born in New Mexico, Bagwell, 29, moved to Austin at the age of 18 and the rest is history.

Ever since a group of local friends, residents and business people came together to put on the first Texas Crab Festival in 1986, the Crab Fest has been all about community. Thanks to the continued efforts of local volunteers and sponsors, the annual Mother’s Day Weekend Crab Fest/Beach Party/Family Reunion has grown into a nationally known destination festival, attracting thousands of visitors each year to Crystal Beach, Texas for a celebration of Gulf Coast style music, art and crabs. And as the festival has grown, so has its continued commitment to serve the community.

The annual Texas Frog Fest will take place this weekend, Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29, in Crystal Beach at 1609 Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula. The event will take place 1 p.m. to midnight each night, rain or shine. There will be plenty of food and drinks available for purchase inside the gates along with an RV and tent area. Performing Saturday will be 10 Man Jam, Aubry Lynn England, Jamie Talbert & the Band of Demons, Bag of Donuts and headliner Cody Johnson.

The Lone Survivor Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing unique healing opportunities for U.S. Armed Forces members and their families, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for its first retreat facility on Saturday, April 26, in Crystal Beach.

Gulf Coast style food, fun and entertainment have long been associated with the Texas Crab Festival, and in its 29th year, the festival continues to offer a myriad of exciting attractions including wiener dog races, a two-step dance contest, a crab gumbo cook off, washers tournament, crab races, carnival rides and midway games, arts and crafts booths, and much more.

Tickets for the festival, set for May 9-11 at Gregory Park in Crystal Beach, are $10 each on Friday and Saturday with free admission on Sunday, Mother’s Day.
