On the weekend of the ‘super’ full moon, escape artists, mind readers and ghoul gurus from far and wide were in Beaumont for the Texas Ghost Show on Saturday, March 19.  The event is one of the largest paranormal conventions in the nation after only it’s second year.

“Rhapsody in LU” will honor the fine arts at Lamar University on Saturday, March 19, when Lamar’s Friends of the Arts present the 37th Le Grand Bal, a gala evening of art, fine dining, dancing and entertainment. Le Grand Bal is the major annual fundraiser for the College of Fine Arts and Communication.

As springtime finally comes around in Southeast Texas, residents look forward to celebrating the return of warmer weather the best way possible – at the YMBL South Texas State Fair.

The opening ceremony of the largest fair in the area starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, and now in its 68th year, the event is geared up for another outstanding 12 days filled with fun, food and entertainment.

Known as the world’s only living Houdini, Aron Houdini will be in Beaumont on March 17 to perform an escape stunt outside at the Crockett Street Entertainment Complex at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

When the group hosted the inaugural Texas Ghost Show last year, a crowd of more than 500 people came out to see what all the fuss was about — indicating that perhaps others have a few questions, as well.

Another Saturday adventure is coming up!

Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will host Build a Birdfeeder on Saturday, March 5, as part of its Saturday Adventure Series program. Just in time for the vacationing birds to return from their winter destination, guests will learn how to use items from around the house to construct a lovely new home for the birds.

This year, Southeast Texas Mardi Gras returns Thursday, March 3, through Sunday, March 6, and by the looks of the festival lineup, organizers are planning to make this year’s event one for the record books.
