UPDATE 10:42 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 27: Police have released the name of a man they say accidentally caused his own death after he died of smoke inhalation inside a Cardinal Exxon dumpster early Tuesday morning.
Southeast Texans might have noticed smoke in the area today and could be curious where it is coming from. According to Larry Jinks, former fire chief and a volunteer firefighter at Johnson Bayou (Louisiana) Fire Department, the smoke is coming from an out-of-control marsh fire in Cameron Parish.
Oct. 24 at approximately 11:03 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Bevil Oaks VFD, Sour Lake VFD and China VFD responded to residential fire at 5229 Alford Oaks just off Tram Road in Beaumont.
Orange County Judge Carl Thibodeaux flexed his judicial muscle to order an emergency burn ban for all of Orange County on Monday, April 18. The ban will be in effect for seven days, and county commissioners will have an opportunity to keep the ban in effect during the entity's next scheduled meeting.
While we harbor no disrespect for the Wall Street Journal who called us “that scrappy little paper from Southeast Texas,” we prefer to think of ourselves as simple seekers of the truth. We’re of the opinion that headlines and sound bites never tell the whole story. Our readers demand all the facts, facets and flavors of every story or event. And, they expect to be informed, educated and stirred to action.
