Habitat for Humanity

LaKista Davis has never known what it feels like to own her own home, but thanks to the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, she is hoping that she will embark on a new chapter of her life that includes home ownership by the end of the year.

Thursday, Aug. 28, Davis drew one step closer to realizing her dream when family, friends, and volunteers gathered at the future site of Davis’ new home on Galveston Street in Beaumont to celebrate groundbreaking on the new build.

Students from Franklin Pierce University volunteered their time to help Habitat for Humanity build a home for a Beaumont resident through the Collegiate Challenge, a nationwide alternative spring break program.

Ten Del Papa Distributing Company employees and their families volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County in Beaumont on Saturday, Dec. 15. Afterward, the Gulf Coast beer distributor, which also recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity on projects near the company’s Texas City and Victoria locations, presented the organization with a $1,500 donation.

Here he comes, Mr. Habitat! Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County announced the contestants for the Mr. Habitat 2013 title. The competition is part of the organization’s 2013 Mr. Habitat: Heartthrob Fundraiser. The group met with media on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Goodfella’s Restaurant in Beaumont to introduce the contestants and discuss exciting upcoming events.
