Vidor Police have arrested the man they believe is responsible for the hit-and-run death of a grandmother leaving Texas Maze of Terror with her family, police said Nov. 2.

A man who claimed his fiancée was struck by a car was arrested after police watched surveillance video they say depicted, not a hit-and-run accident but rather a violent and brutal attack perpetrated by the victim’s betrothed.

Police arrested a Vidor man Aug. 14 after he reportedly struck a vehicle from behind, bolted from the scene of the accident and then assaulted a responding officer who followed a trail of car parts to find the fleeing suspect.

According to a report from the Vidor Police Department, a caller reported that while stopped at the intersection of Old Highway 90 East and the I-10 service road in his Ford F-150, a silver Nissan Versa struck his vehicle from behind and kept driving.

After sentencing former West Orange-Stark Assistant Coach Carl Broussard, 54, to 10 years probation Monday, May 15, for charges related to a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of a young mother and her 6-year-old daughter, Judge Buddie Hahn has now ordered Broussard to spend 180 days in the Orange County Jail up front.

Broussard pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of failure to stop and render aid after fatally striking 25-year-old Ava Nicole Lewis and her daughter Lamya Janise Newhouse with his vehicle on Nov. 2, 2015.

On Monday, March 27, Beaumont Police responded to the 6300 block of College Street, in reference to checking the welfare of a person laying in the ditch on the side of the road, Officer Haley Morrow reported.

Lumberton police are asking for anyone with any information or who may have witnessed an accident to come forward, the department posted on their Facebook page on Feb. 17.

The homeless woman killed in a hit and run on College Street has now been identified, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release Dec. 5.

"The victim has been identified as Bonnie Lee Casaneve, 67 year old homeless white female," Riley said in her statement. She added that the victim was struck while pushing a shopping cart.

Police in Orange are looking for information surrounding the death of 29-year-old Gretta Danielle Franks of Iowa, La., whose body was discovered in a ditch along Interstate 10 on Oct. 8, reports Capt. Robert Enmon of the Orange Police Department. 

Officers responded to a call reporting a deceased person in the 2400 block of S. Lutcher Drive at about 10:55 a.m.

State troopers investigating an apparent hit-and-run accident believe the crash may have been caused by a medical condition suffered by one of the two pickup truck drivers involved in the incident, reports Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper Stephanie Davis.
