An immate at the Jefferson County Jail died in custody, reports Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine what caused the 70-year-old man's death. 

In a news release, Capt. Holmes indicated that an inmate in the medical infirmary reported that his bunk mate was unresponsive at about 6:30 a.m. June 4. Jail staff immediately began CPR and notified EMS. They continued CPR until EMS arrived and took over. The inmate was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

After sentencing former West Orange-Stark Assistant Coach Carl Broussard, 54, to 10 years probation Monday, May 15, for charges related to a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of a young mother and her 6-year-old daughter, Judge Buddie Hahn has now ordered Broussard to spend 180 days in the Orange County Jail up front.

Broussard pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of failure to stop and render aid after fatally striking 25-year-old Ava Nicole Lewis and her daughter Lamya Janise Newhouse with his vehicle on Nov. 2, 2015.

While working a criminal interdiction assignment, on April 10 at about 12:30 a.m., Pinehurst Police Officer Kevin Norton reportedly arrested a 33-year-old woman for traffic offenses, and discovered drug parapehernalia and what appeared to be methamphetamine in her possession, reports Chief Fred Hanauer.

Update, Feb. 27:

The inmate who was rushed to the hospital after reportedly being found hanging in her cell Feb. 24 has died, reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

According to an update from Criminal Investigator and Public Information Officer Janois Grizzaffi, Rosa Bonilla, 35, was pronounced deceased at Christus St. Elizabeth’s hospital on Sunday, February 26, at approximately 12:29 p.m. Bonilla had been transported to the hospital Friday night after she was discovered.

A 39-year-old Beaumont woman is behind bars at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility after police say she stabbed her common-law husband in the chest, Beaumont Police Department Officer Carol Riley reports.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at 2 p.m., a search warrant was executed at 3520 Ridgemont Drive in Orange, Texas.

The warrant was from a combined investigation between the Orange Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Effective October 1, 2015 the Jefferson County Jail will no longer be collecting municipal bonds or fines for the City of Beaumont.

Beaumont municipal bonds and fines will be collected at the Municipal Court at 700 Orleans Street.

Persons posting bond or paying fines to have someone released from jail will need to go to the door on the Forsythe side and push the 911 button for assistance, and must know the defendant’s name and date of birth. The exact amount must be paid in cash only, as no change will be given.
