Paying tribute to the fallen heroes whose sacrifices paved the way for America’s freedom and who have given their lives to protect this nation and its citizens is important to Southeast Texans as evidenced by the many Memorial Day community celebrations across the area commemorating those brave souls.

Police are investigating the homicide of a 74-year-old Orange resident who was found stabbed and mortally wounded at the Alexander Homes Apartments at 2049 Fourth St. on Aug. 18 at 8:22 p.m.

According to a news release from the Orange Police Department, officers responded to the apartment complex after dispatch received a call reporting a stabbing victim at the location. They arrived at the scene minutes after the initial call, at 8:26 p.m., and located the elderly resident with apparent stab wounds lying in the grass at the complex.

Police in Orange are investigating an aggravated assault following a disturbance Aug. 18 that left a one man with a bleeding chest wound.

Several local groups gathered in the summer twilight outside Orange City Hall on Sunday, Aug. 13.

Shelby Smith, who kickstarted the Golden Triangle Indivisible group with the women’s march back in January, explained that the candlelight service commemorated “those who have died at the hands of racism” and also demanded justice for victims of hate after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, where counterprotesters clashed with white nationalists and other right-wing groups Saturday, Aug. 12.

Police in Orange arrested an apparently irate, intoxicated man July 15 on an enhanced family violence charge and retaliation charges, reportedly following an altercation between the suspect and his girlfriend that ended with injuries, his arrest and a threat to come back in three days to beat her again.

Police in Orange are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Orange County at about 9:25 p.m. on June 12, reports Captain Robert Enmon. No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.
