Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an early morning shooting in Cheek that left one local resident injured.

In a news release, JCSO reported receiving a call regarding shots fired in the area of Blewett Road and Second Street in Cheek at about 5:38 a.m. on Dec. 18. Upon reaching the area, investigators found a local resident who told them he had been shot in the shoulder by an unknown individual. The man told deputies he got into his truck to flee, but then lost control and crashed into the yard of another local resident.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and searching for leads in a shooting that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Chad Slaughter of Beaumont, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

According to a news release from BPD, patrol officers responded to a reported shooting inside an apartment in the Timberlake Courts Apartments located at 125 Interstate 10 in Beaumont at about 10:01 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the 26-year-old man dead with a possible gunshot wound to his chest.

Port Arthur police arrested a 22-year-old Port Arthur resident after receiving a report of "shots fired" in the 200 block of Gulfway Drive on Nov. 2.

Detectives are attempting to sort through sketchy details in a shooting that left one man injured Halloween night.

At about 9:47 p.m., officers responded to the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in reference to a victim of a shooting. Doctors were treating a 17-year-old Beaumont man for a gunshot wound to his upper left arm. Doctors expected to treat and release the man.

A Beaumont man has been found guilty of aggravated assault and manslaughter by a Jefferson County jury.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced Friday, Oct. 31, that Lance Jacoby Moore, 28, was found guilty for shooting Lorenzo Simon in the foot at a home in Beaumont, and then fatally shooting Simon again later that same evening on February 27, 2013.  The trial was held in the Criminal District Court, Judge John Stevens presiding.

Police in Groves are continuing to investigate the shooting deaths of a couple found inside their home on Thursday, Oct. 23. While the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, police are already saying it appears as if no "foul play" was evident, leaving the public with questions regarding just how and why the couple's lives ended.

Update: Melissa Ringhardt, the babysitter on duty at the time of 5-year-old Vidor resident John “Johnny” Read’s accidental shooting death in October 2013, was located and arrested by deputies of the Pope County Sheriff’s Department in Russellville, Arkansas on Oct. 2, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 9:29 p.m. last night, patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at the Lancaster Cornwall Apartments located at the corner of Dowlen Rd. and Phelan Blvd. According to a press release, when officers arrived, they found two 18-year-old brothers suffering from non-life threatening injuries they claim occurred in an alleged robbery attempt.
