After pulling the trigger in two fatal shootings in less than a year’s time while sworn to protect and serve as an officer of the Beaumont Police Department, Chase Welch exited the ranks of the local law enforcement agency early in 2017. San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that he is now under their employ, but he was not in the office Wednesday, Aug. 9, allegedly because he was under review for involvement in yet another officer-involved shooting at his new job.

On Sunday, August 6 at 12:13 a.m., Beaumont Police officers responded to the 700 block of San Jacinto Street in reference to a victim of a shooting, Sgt. Cody Guedry said in a release.

On July 31 at 7:19 p.m., Port Arthur Police Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Sabine Avenue in response to a shooting.

On Wednesday, July 26 at 10:44 p.m., the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a subject who had been shot in the stomach.

Sheriff’s deputies and Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene to find 24-year-old Gaven J. Wilcox with a gunshot wound to the abdominal area. After questioning several witnesses, it appears Wilcox may have been shot accidentally while trying to diffuse a disturbance between several subjects. All subjects are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

A 23-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound after a "personal dispute" erupted in violence July 23, reports the Jasper Police Department.

Monday, July 17, at about 12:19 a.m., Beaumont police responded to the 200 block of Rosine Street in reference to a victim of a shooting, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

Preliminary investigation reveals that two individuals were in front of a residence when they were approached by a man who displayed a handgun and attempted to rob the victims.

During the robbery, the suspect shot one of the victims, who was able to return fire. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries; it is unknown if the suspect was injured.

Police are investigating the shooting death of a 46-year-old Vidor man after a family dispute allegedly erupted in violence on July 4, reports Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll. 

According to Carroll, police dispatch received a call at 8:17 p.m. that night in reference to a shooting in the 100 block of Carla Street in Vidor. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified by police as Gregory Paul Goldsmith, being treated by medics from Acadian Ambulance Service. The medics were unable to revive Goldsmith and declared him deceased at the scene.

UPDATE, June 30: Police have arrested and charged a local man with the murder of Cedathion Dill. According to Officer Carol Riley of the Beaumot Police Department, June 30 investigators arrested Darius Trevon Gardiner, a 24-year-old Beaumont man, in relation to the shooting incident that claimed Dill's life a day earlier.

Police are investigating the shooting death of a 35-year-old Beaumont man that occurred on Magnolia Street in an area that has been recently rocked by gun violence, reports the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).
