Taste of the Triangle

What is synonymous in Southeast Texas with Fat Tuesday? Of course it’s the long-standing tradition of Taste of the Triangle, which will celebrate 35 years on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center.

Southeast Texas’ premier foodie fest will have everything your belly desires as more than 40 area restaurants serve up everything from Italian, Cajun and Thai, to country classics and soul food, in a festive Mardi Gras atmosphere.

The MCM Eleganté Hotel is hoping a new concept will entice guests to order pizza in-house and also capitalize on sales opportunities outside the hotel.

Itza Pizza, which opened Saturday, April 1, is serving hotel guests, dine-in customers, and delivering to a whole new market through the Waitr app.

Located inside Hemmingway’s Café, Itza Pizza sold over 300 pizzas in its first week, said Matt Peterson, food and beverage director at the MCM Eleganté.

The concept is the brainchild of hotel GM Steve McGaha.

In less than a year’s time, the Dat Mac food truck has made its mark on Southeast Texas cuisine. Last June, owners/operators Jordan Stringer, Aaron Barnhill and Caleb Lewis made a bold foray into the growing food truck industry. They found a used food truck for sale, and took “Judy” out on the road to see if they could make their mac and cheese vision a reality.

It’s been 33 years and counting, but rest assured the annual “Taste of the Triangle” is far from stale. In fact, this year’s event sponsored by the Sabine Area Restaurant Association will feature a few fresh faces along with the time-honored traditions associated with the area’s premiere foodie event.
