Two bystanders shopping at Walmart in Vidor stepped in to assist security personnel in detaining a thief accused of stealing electronics equipment from the store after the suspect physically attacked the employee, reports the Vidor Police Department (VPD).

Police in Vidor arrested 21-year-old Trevor Duane Edwards May 4 after the manager of a fast food establishment where Edwards once worked said the former employee snuck behind the counter and into the manager’s office, stealing a wad of cash and fleeing in spite of being spotted in the act.

According to Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Cory Kneeland, a March 15 indictment on one count of third-degree felony theft has been dropped against Beaumont Independent School District special education teacher Alisa Boutte. Kneeland said the prosecuting agency came into information that caused the District Attorney’s Office to drop all charges the week of March 27.

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted William Henry Slone, 43, in a second-degree felony theft that took place Oct. 14, 2014.

Slone is charged with stealing parts totaling $157,420 from Mike Smith Chrysler Dodge dealership in Beaumont.
