A Port Arthur man, who allegedly shot his girlfriend, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for aggravated assault on Jan. 18.

Mark Allen Davis, 20, was arrested Dec. 13 for the first-degree felony. He remains in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility under a $500,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit for Davis’ arrest, Port Arthur Police Department officers received a call about a female being transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle after she suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach.

At the hospital, the victim told an officer that “He did it,” before going in and out of consciousness. She was later transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Officers went to a residence in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue, where the shooting happened, and talked to three subjects. One subject said the shooting occurred upstairs. Later, deputies found shell casings on the floor, a table with a handgun, and several bullet holes inside one of the bedroom doors and wall.

One of the subjects told investigators that Davis committed the shooting. Davis was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

The victim told investigators that she was at the residence and she and Davis were lying on the bed. She said Davis then pointed a gun at her, and she then ran out of the bedroom before Davis began firing the gun, striking her several times.

The victim told investigators that she was in a dating relationship with Davis at the time of the shooting.
