It’s a double feature Classic Movie Night on Friday, May 12, with the showing of two cult classics in “Clerks” and “Mallrats” at 7 p.m.

“Clerks” is a 1994 black-and-white comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith and presents a day in the lives of store clerks and their acquaintances. It is the first of Smith’s fimls, which also introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes and Smith, respectively). A sequel was released in 2006 followed by a third installment in 2022.

Shot with a budget of $27,575, the film grossed more than $4 million in theaters and was preserved in 2019 in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

“Mallrats” is also a film that was written and directed by Smith and stars Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Shannen Doherty, Claire Forlani, Ben Affleck, Michael Rooker, Joey Lauren Adams and Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob.

Both dumped by their girlfriends, two best friends seek refuge in the local mall. Eventually, they decide to try and win back their significant others and take care of their respective nemeses. It’s considered a prequel to “Clerks.”
