Jeff Mathews announced his retirement from coaching and will step down as the athletic director/head football coach from Vidor High School. Since 1999, Mathews and the Pirates have advanced to the playoffs nine times with two district titles.

A graduate of Bridge City High School then McNeese State University, Mathews began his coaching career as an assistant at LC-M in 1992. His next move will be working for BSN Sports, a company that supplies schools with apparel, footwear, uniforms and equipment.

“I wanted to take a second and thank everyone that took the time to text, post or call me,” said Mathews. “Every word you said meant the world to me. We are not moving and I will definitely be at all the games next season. Love my players and can’t imagine not being around for their senior year. I won’t however be in the stands with all the unpaid coaches!”
