A Groves man who allegedly beat his nephew was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on third-degree felony charges of injury to a child.

Mohamed Adel Jebokji, 39, was indicted for the child assault charges related to a May 9, 2022, incident recounted in a probable cause affidavit on May 10.

According to the affidavit, a Groves Police Department detective was working at the Groves Middle School when he was summons to the principal’s office to meet a male student who arrived at school beaten up “pretty badly.”

The detective recorded bruising and swelling on the boy’s face, and believed the child’s nose could be broken.

The victim told the detective that he had been at a friend’s home without permission when he was located by his uncle, Jebokji. The boy stated that his uncle struck him in the face and head with his fist, and the beating was so severe he “blacked out.”

The boy was treated for his injuries at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
