The Groves Beautification and Old Fashioned Christmas in Groves committees are inviting the public to a two-fold festive event that begins with the lighting of the City Christmas Tree presented by the Groves Beautification Committee in Celebration Park, located at Lincoln and Coolidge. The park will be decked out for the holidays with the ceremony to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rod Carroll, a Groves man is now behind bars after he was caught in possession of 72 grams of meth on Monday, June 1.

The find was the result of the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force executing a search and arrest warrant in the 6200 block of Monroe Street in Groves, Carroll explained. During a search of the residence, 72 grams of methamphetamine was located.

Police in Groves are continuing to investigate the shooting deaths of a couple found inside their home on Thursday, Oct. 23. While the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, police are already saying it appears as if no "foul play" was evident, leaving the public with questions regarding just how and why the couple's lives ended.

Police in Groves are still searching for a suspect in the aggravated robbery of a pizza delivery driver that occurred on Monday, Oct. 27, at about 8:30 p.m.

A citizen's quick action led police in Groves to the arrest of a suspect the witness says stole a loaded gun from a vehicle at a local gym.

According to a report from the Groves Police Department, on Monday, September 8 at about 7:57 a.m., a witness observed a male enter an unlocked car and remove a loaded handgun and flee the area of Planet Fitness. The witness remained on the phone until Police arrived to investigate.

A Groves man charged with fondling two underage children was re- arrested last week and will likely face a new charge of possession of child pornography.

David Lawrence Guest, 51, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Sept. 26, 2013 for indecency with a child and improper photography/visual recording, a second-degree felony and state jail felony, respectively.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, Guest’s trouble with the law began March 2013 when the daughter of a family friend made an outcry of sexual abuse to police.

And this year was no different. With at least 600 dresses, thousands in donations from area businesses and a small army of volunteers, this year’s Prom Project ensured area foster kids would have a prom night to remember.
