Port Arthur police are still investigating the shooting death of former Mayor Derrick Freeman's brother. -
Marcus Freeman, 34, is found unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound at the Normandy Apartments on Friday, Jan. 21.

Friday afternoon, Jan. 21, officers from the Port Arthur Police Department responded to the Normandy Apartments, 3800 Normandy Ave., to exact a welfare check on a man reportedly slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle parked at the property.
Officers arrived and located the victim, who was unresponsive and reportedly appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Marc Derouen has ordered an autopsy.
Once the family was notified, so was the community. The victim, 34-year-old Marcus Allen Freeman, is identified as the brother of former Port Arthur Mayor Derrick Freeman.
