Man arrested in Vidor girl’s disappearance

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a teenage girl, according to a news release by Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.

Dec. 8, at 11:15 a.m., officers from the Vidor Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services responded to a tip on the location of missing girl Chelsey Stewart, 14. The officers went to a home in the 3500 block of 10th Street in Beaumont (Beauxart Garden) and, after given consent to enter the residence, found the the girl, who was later reunited with her family.

John David Allen, 44, of Lovelady, Texas, was arrested and charged with harboring a runaway. Bond was set at $50,000 and he remains in the   Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

The girl was reported missing on Nov. 21 and was last seen riding a red Honda dirt bike.

According to Carroll, Allen had earlier been interviewed during the investigation and advised he had no knowledge as to the runaway’s location. He further assisted in the distribution of fliers asking assistance in locating the missing juvenile.
