Southeast Texans hoping for reprieve from early April showers can look forward to a more sunny, event-packed Easter weekend. From community egg hunts for kids and adults to drink and brunch specials at local bars and restaurants throughout the area, Southeast Texas will be engulfed in Easter “egg-citement.”

A staple of the holiday for the past couple hundred years, Easter egg hunts abound in the Beaumont area April 16. Planning to scatter approximately 25,000 eggs in Rogers Park ahead of its 12th annual Easter egg hunt, Beaumont’s First Baptist Church will be hosting its community-wide celebration starting at 11 a.m. April 16 – warning residents that the event is BYOB (bring your own basket).

Additionally, parents looking for places to take their little ones may visit places like the John Jay French Museum, where organizers plan to host their fifth annual Easter egg hunt starting at 1:45 p.m. There will be four divided areas for different age groups up to 11-year-old egg hunters. Tickets to this event are $5 for everyone over four, according to announcements. Event-goers can also take photos with the Easter bunny and tour the French home.

Likewise hosting a family friendly event April 16 is 5 Under Golf Center. Attendees can expect hidden prizes at the Easter egg hunt on the green, set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Hopping his way through Southeast Texas, the Easter bunny will be available for family photos from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those searching for Easter activities around Nederland are invited to attend First Baptist Church of Nederland’s free Easterfest from 9 - 11 a.m. April 16. There, children can bring their baskets to hunt for approximately 20,000 eggs, ride a trackless train, splash a stranger in the dunk tank, play games, get their faces painted and more.

Silly rabbit, Easter is for adults

Easter Sunday is celebrated by countless Christians worldwide as the date of Jesus’ resurrection. Calvary Baptist in Beaumont and Lumberton invites guests to worship with them at either 9:30 or 11 a.m. Sunday, April 17. Beaumont’s Antioch Missionary Baptist Church welcomes guests every Sunday for services at 8 or 10 a.m., with virtual services available on their Facebook page. Join Trinity United Methodist Church for Easter Sunday services at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

While Southeast Texas is full of soul-filling service options Easter weekend, the area is also brimming with belly-filling lunch and brunch options. Bring pets and family to enjoy crawfish, $2 mimosas and live music at Madison’s on Dowlen during their Easter Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pick a dish from 5 Under Golf Center’s specialty menu between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at their Bunny Brunch. The MCM Eleganté is hosting an Easter champagne brunch Sunday morning between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., featuring Easter desserts and champagne mimosas.

Those looking to celebrate the weekend early can take advantage of $3 mimosas on Good Friday at The Toasted Yolk locations in Beaumont and Port Arthur. The restaurant also carries an extensive brunch menu including dishes like chicken and waffles, brisket tacos and churro donuts.

Adults looking for some age-appropriate, post-Easter activities may be interested in the Beaumont Heritage Society’s “Adults After Easter,” replete with a booze-filled Easter egg hunt. The event is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the John Jay French Museum. Guests must be at least 21 to participate, and tickets cost $10. Giglio Distributing Company will be on site with craft beer, but wine and other treats will also be available.
