Orange County Sheriff's Narcotics Deputies arrested a Vidor High School teacher who was discovered with more than 9 ounces of what they believe to be methamphetamine, in spite of her effort to hide the drugs, reports OCSO Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson.

Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt is seeking a third term as sheriff in the upcoming elections and kicked off his campaign for re-election on Nov. 17, 2015.

Merritt took office as sheriff on Jan. 1, 2009, but his career in law enforcement that began in 1979 when he started as a Reserve Deputy for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Merritt also served as Constable for Pct. 1 in Orange County for fourteen years. He is certified as a Master Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Smaug, the Houston Zoo’s 17-year-old Komodo dragon, was humanely euthanized on Nov. 17, 2015 after significant lumbar spinal cord compression was found. The zoo’s herpetology and veterinary team made the decision after an MRI and CT scan showed that his condition was severe and his quality of life was beginning to suffer as he was unable to walk.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was called out Monday to help find 81-year-old Ruben “Dan” Clubb.  Clubb walked away from his home on Highway 365 into the woods by his residence on Nov. 16, 2015.
