The Hardin County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a shooting at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 in the 4000 block of Lindsey Road, just north of Silsbee. Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased white male at the residence who was identified as Gary Clifton Holland, 60, from Silsbee.

Also at the scene, deputies found a suspected identified as Charles Dewain Dear Jr., 56, of Silsbee. He was charged with murder and booked into Hardin County Jail with $1 million bond.

HCSO is not releasing any further details regarding the crime.

The Orange Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a robbery at Crawdad's gas station located near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Interstate 10 around 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. 

According to information from law enforcement, Kenneth Mason, 60, of Orange, brandished a firearm and threatened the clerk. The clerk was able to run from the store, leaving Mason alone inside.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported they recovered the body of Donald Goodman with the help of Texas EquuSearch on Saturday, Feb. 2. 

Goodman was reported missing when his truck was found abandoned on the Taylors Bayou Bridge on Jan. 23. At the time, JCSO activated their marine and aviation units and scoured the area with assistance from divers from Port Arthur Fire Department. They performed several searches throughout the area during the time Goodman was missing.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced Friday, Feb. 1, that $1.8 million has been awarded to Texas Materials Group Inc. for the widening of Highway 69.The project will widen the roadway from one lane to two lanes in each direction from the Highway 69/96 split to FM 421.Construction will begin later this year and is expected to last approximately one year.

According to information from the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD, on Sunday, Jan. 27, administrators were informed of an incident where a student possibly brought a weapon to the high school campus the previous Friday, Jan. 25. 

Administrators conducted an investigation and through interviewing students, the administration was led to believe the weapon was a handgun. The student who brought the weapon to the campus was identified and following the district's policies int he Student Code of Conduct, the student was removed from the campus.
