On Saturday, August 12 at around 12:15 p.m., Beaumont Fire dispatch started receiving calls that a house was on fire in the 4300 block of Ave A, in Beaumont’s south end, Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

Some may see it as a victimless crime. Others, like Beaumont Police Department’s Sgt. Bobby Anderson, know better. He’s seen the victims.

Over the last 18 months or so, Anderson has tracked the calls for service to game rooms and gaming sites throughout Beaumont. Robberies, theft, arson, assault … the list goes on and on, for roughly 500 pages of call reports alone.

At approximately 7:19 p.m. on April 28, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 2070 Oakland. When firefighters arrived, they found the structure fully involved by flames. Firefighters made a defensive attack and were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes. The building appears to have been vacant with no utilities connected. The fire appears to be deliberate, and the building is a total loss.

A fire under an I-85 bridge near downtown Atlanta caused it to collapse on Thursday evening, March 30, causing major traffic disruptions.

An eyewitness told The Examiner she could see the smoke from her apartment complex just off Peachtree Road near downtown.

Georgia Department of Insurance deputy commissioner Jay Florence said that the fire was intentionally started, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported April 2. Three suspects are being charged in connection with the fire: Basil Eleby, Sophia Bruner and Barry Thomas.

Structure fire at 3880 E. Lynwood

Shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday morning, Oct. 18, 2015, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 3880 E. Lynwood near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Hayes Lane in Beaumont’s North End neighborhood. When firefighters arrived, they found the wood-frame home heavily involved by fire. Firefighters made a defensive attack due to the extent of the fire, and in more than 30 minutes it took to control the blaze, the home sustained extensive damage.

Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 9:30 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue responded to a report of a house fire at 2197 Rusk. According to Captain Brad Penisson, when firefighters arrived, they found a vacant duplex engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to quickly control the blaze with no injuries, and it was determined the fire was deliberately set.

On Sunday, September 27, 2015, in the wee hours of the morning, Beaumont firefighters were dispatched to two separate fires that may have been related.

At 3:41 a.m., the Beaumont Fire Department received a report of a building on fire at 410 Winfield. While at this location, fire dispatchers received a 911 call reporting another fire at 1208 Gilbert. Other units were dispatched to this location and were able to bring the flames under control within a few minutes.

Investigators with the Orange Police and Fire Departments are investigating a Sept. 20 fire at a vacant residence on Decatur Avenue that they believe was the result of arson, OPD Captain Cliff Hargrave reports.
