On August 15, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested former teacher, Vernon S. Benoit, 46, of Welsh, after a four month long investigation revealed he was videoing female students at high school football games, inside the mall, and in his classroom where he taught at a local high school in Calcasieu Parish.

On Friday, July 21, at 2:21 p.m., Beaumont police received a call from the U.S. Marshal’s Office in reference to attempting to locate a suspect that was believed to be near Walden and I-10.

The suspect, identified as Ivory Carl Myles, a 28-year-old Nachitoches, Louisiana man, had an NCIC (National Crime Information Center) warrant for armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping out of Louisiana. Myles is also suspected of committing an aggravated sexual assault. U.S. Marshalls advised that Myles was considered armed and dangerous.

Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 36-year-old Kevin S. Edwards of Orange Feb. 5 and charged him with attempted first-degree murder following a shooting that severely injured a Louisiana man who was still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) recovering from surgery Feb. 6, reports the sheriff's office.

Pro wrestling fans are in a frenzy as two events will be held in the area beginning with Hurricane Pro Wrestling returning to the Beaumont Civic Center on Saturday, Jan. 7 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 or a family four-pack for $30 and can be purchased online at hurricanepro.info or at the door.

A suspect believed to be intoxicated at a local convenience store led Beaumont police officers on a car chase that ended with the man behind bars in a Louisiana jail Dec. 21, Officer Haley Morrow reports. 

According to a news release from Morrow, officers responded to the Speedy Stop at 8391 College At. at close to 1 a.m. in reference to an intoxicated person in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the suspect, who then fled the scene in his vehicle.

Police in Orange are looking for information surrounding the death of 29-year-old Gretta Danielle Franks of Iowa, La., whose body was discovered in a ditch along Interstate 10 on Oct. 8, reports Capt. Robert Enmon of the Orange Police Department. 

Officers responded to a call reporting a deceased person in the 2400 block of S. Lutcher Drive at about 10:55 a.m.

Market Basket announces that they are accepting non-perishable food, water and non-food necessities for Louisiana flood victims at all 34 stores in Texas and Louisiana.

The collection drive started Wednesday, Aug. 17 in all Market Basket stores and will continue through Saturday, Sept. 3, at which time donations collected will be shipped to relief agencies for immediate distribution.

Coast Guard crews rescued about 200 people, assisted nearly 3,000 people in distress and rescued 26 pets as of Aug. 15 from flooded areas of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Aug. 16, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that a total of 20 parishes have been declared a major disaster by the federal government.
