Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office seized marijuana, pot plants and firearms during an investigation Jan. 23, reportedly resulting in drug and weapon charges against an area teen, reports Deputy Marcus McLellan.

According to information from Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas Brit Featherston, a 42-year-old Beaumont-based federal prison chaplain pleaded guilty to bribery on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Eric S. Patrick, of Nederland, pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with bribery of a public official before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn.

Gregg Ruth has been creating designer jewelry for three decades, with stores in New York City and California. He made one of his regular trips to Southeast Texas and Louisiana, visiting Nederland Jewelers in Beaumont on Dec. 21 to meet with local collectors.

Ruth is well known for his colored stones, especially his pink and yellow diamonds. All of his pieces are unique and issued in a limited edition.

A Nederland house caught fire on Thursday, Dec. 15, near the intersection of Detroit Avenue and Gage Avenue.

"We received a call at 9:12 this morning, we were here within five minutes," Nederland assistant fire chief Terry Morton said. Upon arrival, he said the crew observed "heavy fire showing out of the front side of the house, through the front window."

Just after midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 12, Nederland, Port Neches, and Groves Fire Departments responded to a house on fire in the 200 block of 17th Street. The occupant evacuated the building as firefighters arrived, according to a statement.

All firefighters called out to the scene reported back to the station safely.

The house fire is still being investigated.
