A Beaumont jury sentenced 42-year-old Cedric Dwight Madison to 99 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child Nov. 9 following a two-day trial during which jurors heard statements and considered evidence in the attack on a baby merely three months old.

A 26-year-old Beaumont man arrested for killing a homeless woman in June has been indicted on capital murder charges by a Jefferson County Grand Jury Sept. 26.

Brandon Julian Coleman has been charged with the capital murder of 54-year-old Catherine Dungan, who was found bound at a local park and who had been sexually assaulted before being strangled to death.

A Beaumont man is behind bars on Capital Murder charges following the sexual assault and murder of a local homeless woman, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) received a complaint in October 2016 that Jason Miller, 42, of Lake Charles, had sexually assaulted a family member, sometime between 2009 and 2010 when the victim was 6 years old, the department posted on their Facebook page.

Three Mid-County men have been indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury in separate cases on charges ranging from physical to sexual violence against children and, in one of the cases, against an intellectually challenged 20-year-old.

Charles Orlando Betancourt, 31, of Port Neches was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child March 29 stemming from accusations he sexually assaulted his 3-year-old daughter on multiple occasions.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Monday, Nov. 21, that Vernon Ray Strong, 63, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced by Judge John B. Stevens, Jr. to 20 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

According to reports from the Beaumont Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Betty Lane on Friday, Aug. 5, shortly before 11 p.m. in reference to a sexual assault in progress. The complaining witness stated that she walked in to find Cedric Madison sexually assaulting her infant child.

Jefferson County Criminal District Court Judge John B. Stevens Jr. sentenced 41-year-old Beaumont resident John Henry Whitfield to 15 years in prison after Whitfield pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child on June 13, reported the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
