Along with the June 18 indictment of alleged cold case murderer Terry Rose, charged with the 1999 murder of Kimberly Langwell, Jefferson County grand jurors indicted 47-year-old Damond Lewis for the 2014 murder of Eric Noel, 29, of Port Arthur.

According to the probable cause affidavit supporting Lewis’ indictment, Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) detectives report that Lewis entered the police station June 14 and confessed to the decade-old murder. The original PAPD detective on the case, swearing of the affidavit’s voracity for the grand jury, reported being on scene the day of the murder in 2014.

“When I arrived, the male was still alive, but received multiple gunshot wounds,” the officer recounted. “I did attempt to speak with him but I could barely hear him and got limited details.”

Noel succumbed to the injuries sustained in the shooting, and PAPD continued to seek out information regarding the death.

As recited in the charging affidavit, “In the years since the murder, there was information that Noel had been involved in a disturbance at BJ’s Convenience Store prior to him being shot.” The detailed garnered from witnesses over the years were confirmed when Lewis offered a confession, the affidavit stated.

“During the interview,” the affidavit detailed, “Lewis would reiterate details that was given by the witnesses who saw the disturbance that preceded this murder. Lewis in the interview would admit to finding Noel and shooting him” after the BJ’s Convenience Store altercation.

As of press time, Lewis was being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a single charge of murder
