With record high temperatures gripping the community, Entergy Texas and Habitat for Humanity announced the Port Arthur Energy Sweep partnership to provide complimentary AC and energy efficiency upgrades to Port Arthur residents via two programs, the Residential Standard Offer program and the CoolSaver program. During a June 12 event where local leaders gathered at Barbara Jacket Park to observe energy efficiency improvements identified for several pre-identified homes, Entergy Texas Customer Service Manager Dashaun Armstrong outlined how the co-op will operate.

“This celebrates a partnership between Entergy Texas and Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County to provide weatherization for more than 200 homes here in Port Arthur,” Armstrong said.

The stated goal of the community partnership, reps reported, is to help reduce utility costs for homeowners – particularly the elderly, disabled and households with repeatedly high utility bills. Technicians are provided to selected homes to tune-up AC systems, clean and optimize air conditioning, install ceiling insulation, repair sealing ducts, address sealing leaks around doors and windows, and install Energy Star equipment like LED bulbs or advanced power strips to help reduce heating and cooling costs and improve resident safety.

Karen Do, Entergy’s public affairs representative, further iterated on the importance of this collaboration and Entergy’s conviction towards helping the community.

“We have been in the community for over 200 years we are here to stay, and we are here to reinvest in our community,” Do said.

Entergy and Habitat will complete home weatherization projects throughout June. For more information on resources or to check program eligibility, contact Habitat for Humanity at (409) 832-5853.
