International Museum Day (IMD) is a worldwide event, created by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, held each year on and around May 18. The goal of IMD is “…to raise awareness on the fact that, ‘museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among peoples’… Museums serve as dynamic educational hubs, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking… From art and history to science and technology, museums are vital spaces where education and research converge to shape our understanding of the world.”
