Already answering to the titles of mom, wife and U.S. Navy veteran, Brittney Losier can now add college graduate to the list. This semester, Losier celebrated earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lamar University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Although the timing wasn’t what she initially planned, Losier now feels it couldn’t have been more perfect, as she and her youngest child are both celebrating graduations – one from LU and the other from kindergarten at Anahuac Elementary.

“When Adelyn sees me studying, she goes and gets herself a book and sits down to read with me, and I’m so proud to know that I’ve set that example for my kids,” Losier shared.

Losier, a mother of three, admits she never saw herself as the classroom type. After a single semester at Houston Baptist University following her high school graduation, she decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy in December 2009.

“I needed some direction and a purpose,” she explained. During Losier’s service, she found both, along with a husband, Brett, who was also stationed in San Diego. “We met in boot camp and realized we were from the same area, reconnected a year later, and were married.”

The Losier family blossomed in San Diego, where they welcomed their first son, Wyatt, now 11. Just a couple of years later, they had their second son, Levi, now 9, and then completed their family with daughter, Adelyn. As she handles the challenges of being a wife and mother of three, Losier also works as a Quality Supervisor at the VA for a military contractor, helping veterans process their disability claims.

“I love my job, and I want to advance, but I needed that degree to be able to move up,” she said of what started the journey back to college; it wasn’t easy, Losier added, especially with her boys playing select ball and having games every weekend.

“Between games, I’m in the car doing schoolwork, and I’ve carried that laptop to practices for quite some time,” she mentioned, the Sugarland native one of thousands of students each year taking advantage of the flexibility offered through Lamar University’s hybrid schedule option, which provided her with the ability to balance work, family and studies. “If it weren’t for Lamar offering hybrid classes, I wouldn’t have been able to help provide for my family and be present for the kids while earning my degree.”

Losier believes life’s timing is just right, as she witnesses her children’s growth and success.

“I’ve seen such a big change in the kids, and I’ve never pushed school or specific future plans on them, but my oldest is now in the honor society this year, and they are all trying to make the best grades they can and even mention going to college,” she shared, brimming with pride.
