Registration is open for the 22nd annual Southeast Texas Basketball School featuring instruction from two legendary high school basketball coaches – Todd Sutherland and Doug McCarter.
Session 1 begins June 24-28 and Session 2 is July 8-12, both at Westgate Memorial Baptist Church (6220 Westgate Dr.) in Beaumont. The school is open to boys and girls, ages 5-15. Cost per camper is $160 and can be done online at ballcharts.com/setxbbschool or by calling (409) 656-2785.
“Instruction includes basketball fundamentals such as moving without the ball, how to separate from a defender, how to anticipate, recognize and execute using solid ball handling, shot selection, rebounding and defending the ball,” said McCarter. “We spend a lot of time on ‘how to play the game’ as well as com- peting through different games and con- tests.”
Sutherland is the current boys head basketball coach at East Chambers High School and has won more than 900 games and three state championships.
McCarter is the former head boys basketball coach at West Orange-Stark where he lead the Mustangs to the 4A state tournament in 2006.
“We have a solid staff composed of high school varsity head coaches and varsity assistant coaches who have been with us (the core) since the beginning,” said McCarter. “In addition, we spend time on character, teamwork and solid moral values. We give God the glory and have a daily devotion prior to lunch every day. Our response to this environment is outstanding.”
