An Orange-based radio station, KOGT Radio, announced that Friday, Dec. 29 would be its last day on air.

According to a story from the station, “KOGT Radio, one of Orange’s oldest, continually-operated businesses, will be ceasing all operations Friday.”

Gary Stelly, who has owned the station for 30 years, made the announcement Tuesday, Dec. 28, during The Morning Show. He cited a number of factors, including changing media.

“I look forward to reminiscing during The KOGT Morning Show the next couple of mornings and having the opportunity to thank the people that have been there for us,” Stelly said.

Stelly was one of the first media operators in the region to start a website with kogt.com, but he said radio was always his first priority.

KOGT at 1600 AM went on the air January 16, 1948. It went through different owners, including promoter Ed Lovelace in the 1960s into the 1970s. Stelly bought the station in 1992 and has run it since then with a concentration on local news, sports, and personalities.
