Southeast Texas women gathered in downtown Beaumont for the local women’s march Jan. 21, joining an estimated 3 million other women across the United States, according to The Hill. Local artist Betty Smith opened her studio at 8 a.m. and provided supplies for participants to make signs.

When Mark Gregory “Greg” Brown, who coached physical education at Dishman Elementary for many years, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, during Spring Break, he was only 53. Sensing his loss at the Beaumont school, the grandparent of a student sought to plant a living memorial to Coach Brown.

Sue Philp of Beaumont began volunteering for Nutrition and Services For Seniors (NSFS) delivering hot food through the nonprofit’s Meals on Wheels program with her mother, Nel Phillips, more than 12 years ago. After her mother passed away, she continued the family tradition of helping seniors and even enlisted her husband, Roy.

The City of Beaumont says residents' water is safe to drink in spite of an "alleged noncompliance" issue reported to the municipality by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on Jan. 20, Public Works Director Dr. Joseph Majdalani reports.

On Jan. 25, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested a Lockhart man on five counts of possession of child pornography. James Brian Gorley, 33, is charged with a third degree felony and could face up to ten years in prison if convicted.
