MIAMI — The Coast Guard planned to suspend the search for possible survivors from the cargo ship El Faro at sunset Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.

The El Faro is believed to have sunk during Hurricane Joaquin.

Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, Air National Guard and tugboat crews searched more than 183,000 square nautical miles off the Bahamian coast in a joint effort to locate the El Faro crew.

The following notice regarding lane closures in Beaumont and Orange was released by TxDOT Monday, Oct. 5:

BEAUMONT – The right, eastbound lane of IH 10 at Major Drive will be closed tomorrow, Oct. 6, 9am-3:30 p.m. to replace traffic control devices.

On Sunday, October 4, 2015, at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the 2400 block of 16th Street in regards to an auto-pedestrian accident.

On Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 4:27 a.m., the Port Arthur Police Department received a report of a window being shot. Upon arrival, officers were told a woman and her boyfriend had been in a verbal altercation with a male subject, but had forced him to leave the residence. Shortly after, the couple was standing in their living room when a gun shot broke the window they were standing near.

At the conclusion of a bond hearing punctuated by an eruption of emotion, including a declaration of love from the suspect to his mother and a tearful outburst from the deceased victim’s family, Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens set a $500,000 bond for David Carl Smith, who was extradited from the Netherlands to face murder charges in Jefferson County.
