Wednesday, May 30, at 8:27 p.m., Beaumont Drug Enforcement Agents (DEA) were conducting a surveillance investigation in search of an 18 wheeler believed to be carrying a large amount of drug money to the Texas/Mexico border. They located the truck in Lafayette, Louisiana and followed it into Texas. With the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Beaumont PD, Vidor PD, Port Arthur PD and Texas DPS, the truck was tracked into the Beaumont area and stopped on IH10 near the 848 mile marker.

Police are searching for the suspect or suspects who vandalized a church in Orange, spraypainting the church building and a vehicle at a nearby residence with symbols often associated with Satanism, including an upside-down cross and "666."

According to the Orange Police Department (OPD), patrol officers responded to a report of criminal mischief on May 31 and determined one or more suspects spraypainted offensive symbols at St. Mary Catholic Church, 912 W. Cherry in Orange, and on the vehicle located on Ninth Street sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. that day.

The National Park Service will be hosting a family fishing event at the Lower Neches Valley Authority Neches River Saltwater Barrier in Beaumont, Texas in celebration of Free Fishing Day 2018 on Saturday, June 2. The event starts at 9 a.m. and will last until 1 p.m. According to the Park Rangers and TPWD Certified Angler Education Instructors will be in attendance to assist in education and instruction of basic fishing skills. Some fishing gears will be available to use, however participants can also bring their own equipment.

Benny Nettles

57-year-old Benny Nettles was pronounced deceased after a traffic crash, Wednesday, May 30. Officer Haley Morrow reported that a preliminary investigation showed that Nettles was travelling North bound in the 5300 block of Pine St. in a red Chevy Cavalier when he lost control of the vehicle in the curve and struck a tree before coming to rest on it’s top.

According to a press release form Texas Department of Transportation; I10 westbound will be detoured to SH124 Wednesday, May 30 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., due to construction to the Brush Island overpass. I10 eastbound will be detoured to SH124 Thursday night, May 31 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
