A motorist died after a one-car accident on US 69 near Woodville, the Texas Department of Public Safety reports.

The accident occurred in Tyler County on Wednesday, Nov. 2, about 2 p.m., approximately five miles south of Woodville.

A 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 69. For an unknown reason, the driver crossed the center dividing line, overcorrected and drove off the roadway. After traveling off the roadway, the vehicle struck a tree.

The Beaumont Police Department Special Crimes Unit has filed two robbery cases with juvenile probation in reference to a robbery that occurred Sept. 30, 2016. The victim of the robbery was a 13-year-old.

The Salvation Army is calling for volunteer bell ringers in the Southeast Texas area.

Their announcement reads, "Ring a bell, help change a life."

The Coalition for Victims of Violent Crime will honor crime victims Dec. 6 by sponsoring the sixteenth annual Tree of Angels at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont.

The Tree of Angels is a loving way the public gathers to trim a tree at the courthouse for those who have felt the impact of crime. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the courthouse, 1149 Pearl St., in Beaumont. Crime victims will trim the tree and a guest will light the tree.

Like a big family reunion, alumni members of Lamar University’s social Greek fraternities and sororities will gather to celebrate 60 years of Greek Life at Lamar University. The Office of Alumni Affairs, in partnership with Greek Life, is hosting the celebration on Friday, Nov. 11 at the University Event Center on the 8th floor of the Mary and John Gray Library from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
