BPD investigates West End shooting

Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7:27 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to Roger’s Park located at 6450 Gladys in reference to shots fired. When Officers arrived, they located evidence that a shooting had occurred in the parking lot, however no victims were present.

TCA awards grants to Beaumont arts groups

The Texas Commission on the Arts announced the approval of more than $11.6 million in grants for 120 cities for the 2023 year, including Beaumont. The TCA’s approval is for 943 grants in the first funding round of Fiscal Year 2023.

Third game room robbery suspect arrested

The third suspect in an Aug. 16 robbery of a Kirbyville game room has been found and arrested, reported KJAS.com. Oct. 3, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department announced that Gregorio “Greg” Carpio, 50, of Rye, was captured over the weekend in Tyler County.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a 41-year-old loan officer/teller from Port Arthur on Sept. 28, after investigators say the woman illegally lent approximately $122,000 to herself and family members over two years.

A Tyler County grand jury indicted a 17-year-old high school student for felony terroristic threat. According to Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, District Attorney Lucas Cabin presented the case to the grand jury on Sept. 29.

Daughter-defiling inmate busted for drugs

After a jailer found a bevy of narcotics concealed inside a deodorant stick belonging to a 43-year-old inmate, who is already accused of continuous sex abuse of his daughter, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted the man Sept. 28 for prohibited substances in a correctional facility.

Voting calendar set, deadlines draw near

There are a host of state, federal, county and other elections next month and the deadline to register to vote is drawing near. According to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, the final day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
