Beaumont Police gathered to present honors to officers and community leaders Thursday evening, Oct. 18, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Beaumont at their 2012 Annual Awards Banquet.

The announcement was expected but still greeted with a sigh of relief among Southeast Texas officials and residents who believe regularly scheduled commercial air service is important to a community. American Airlines said it will begin flying from the Jack Brooks Regional Airport (BPT) to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on Feb. 13, 2013, through its regional affiliate American Eagle.

The Orange City Council officially denied CenterPoint Energy Resources Corp.’s request for a rate increase at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 23. The council previously reviewed the ordinance for denial of the proposed increase at its Oct. 9 meeting and approved the measure unanimously Oct. 23.

The Texas Attorney General has been asked to decide whether Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) trustees can legally appoint a currently-seated minority member to an additional two-year term, bypassing a public vote. The appointment would be the result of a lottery between trustees Zenobia Bush and Terry Williams, whose terms are scheduled to end in 2015. The “loser” would fill a newly districted at-large trustee seat starting in 2013 and ending in 2017.
