Lamar University junior Zae Giles has been named to the 2018 Preseason All-Southland Conference. A receiver, Giles garnered second-team honors as punt returner on the squad.

Corey Burnette began playing basketball at the age of 7. His mother signed him up for Little Dribblers, and though he didn’t immediately take to the sport, he eventually carried his basketball with him everywhere he went.

At 21, the West Brook graduate travels the world eight months out of the year playing professionally with the Flight Squad — a premier high-level exhibition basketball team consisting of former professional athletes.

The Sabine River in Orange has been a very busy body of water, from recent Bassmaster fishing tournaments to thundering tunnel boat racing. Now for the first time, the waterway will see a “Rumble on the River” as TxH20 Racing presents jet ski racing Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15, at the Orange Boat Ramp (408 Pier Road).

“This is something new that everyone will enjoy,” said Brandy Judice, Orange CVB coordinator. “There will be no charge to attend this family-friendly event. Concessions and kids activities onsite will also be available.”

Frank Messina, a member of the 1968 Lamar Cardinals football team, proudly displays Lamar University athletic memorabilia throughout his store Debb’s Liquor at 2525 College St. in Beaumont. One particular item that still excites him to this day is the “Catch Cardinal Craze” bumper sticker above the main entrance of his business.
