The City of Beaumont’s Recreation Division will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 19, starting at noon. The hunt will be held in Magnolia Park at 2855 Magnolia. The event is free for children 2-12 years of age. Come out, enjoy the hunt while supplies last and have a chance to win an Easter basket. The Beaumont Public Health Department celebrated its grand opening Thursday, March 3, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Health Department employees moved into the new facility at 3040 College Street in January.

A crash involving two SUVs slowed traffic as first responders and wrecker staff attempted to flip one of the vehicles overturned during the accident and to clear debris from the roadway.

A Beaumont police officer has been placed on administrative leave following a fatal shooting over the weekend, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

According to a news release from BPD, dispatch received a call in reference to an auto theft suspect at a residence in the 600 block of 23rd street just after 4:30 p.m. on March 5. Responding officers were advised that the suspect was armed.

Traffic alert from the Texas Department of Transportation:

BEAUMONT – Alternating lane closures on US 69 northbound at Lucas with traffic possibly detoured to the frontage road Sunday night, March 6, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Crews will be moving concrete traffic barrier.

ORANGE – The inside, westbound lane of Interstate 10 in Orange from Simmons Drive to Highway 87 will be closed nightly Saturday-Monday night, March 5-7, 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to work on the Highway 87 overpass.

Police in Beaumont have released the identity of a woman found dead on the train tracks March 2.

The Beaumont Police Department reports officers responded to Broadway at First Street in reference to a deceased person at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. When police arrived, they discovered a black female deceased on the railroad tracks. It was apparent to officers that the woman had been run over by a train. Investigators reportedly found no evidence of foul play.

The victim has been identified as Bertha Thomas, a 47-year-old Beaumont woman.

Hosted by BAW Resale/Interiors at 660 Fannin St., junk dealers and vendors of all sorts sell their wares up and down Fannin from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. There’s food, live music, and more cool junk and antiques than you can shake a stick at.
