Sheriff Mitch Woods and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office proudly promoted four outstanding deputies at a ceremony on Feb. 5 subsequent to the retirement of one of their own, Major Brad Lowe.

Sheriff Mitch Woods stepped up to the podium and greeted the crowd of family, friends and fellow law enforcers, then requested that Pastor Randy G. Vaughn of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church stand to bless the ceremony.

"These are the things I do that I enjoy most," Woods said of the promotions.

The Beaumont Police has announced the Great Texas Warrant Round Up will begin in Jefferson County on Feb. 23 and run until March 1.

Several law enforcement agencies within Jefferson and Hardin Counties are joining forces to host the warrant round up to target citizens who have failed to resolve their violations. 

Officer Carol Riley said that anyone who does not take advantage of the 3-week grace period, starting Monday, Feb. 2, could face arrest anywhere including while driving, at home or even at his or her job.

Dynamic efforts by emergency personnel saved a young woman who had driven into the LNVA Canal in China on Jan. 4, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an early morning shooting in Cheek that left one local resident injured.

In a news release, JCSO reported receiving a call regarding shots fired in the area of Blewett Road and Second Street in Cheek at about 5:38 a.m. on Dec. 18. Upon reaching the area, investigators found a local resident who told them he had been shot in the shoulder by an unknown individual. The man told deputies he got into his truck to flee, but then lost control and crashed into the yard of another local resident.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is warning Southeast Texans about a new “spoofing” scam active in the area, and said residents should be suspicious of any phone calls they might receive with “Jefferson County Courthouse” showing up as the name on the caller ID.

Caller ID spoofing allows a caller to masquerade as someone else by falsifying the number that appears on the recipient’s caller ID display; originally used by collection agencies, it was outlawed in 2010.

Eastern District of Texas U.S. Attorney John M. Bales and Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced Friday, Oct. 31, the addition of a new partner agency to the multi-jurisdictional Task Force.  Attorney General of Texas Greg Abbott will dedicate resources from the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit to investigate and prosecute crimes related to Medicaid fraud which are uncovered by the Task Force.  The mission of the Task Force remains to investigate and prosecute major crimes – more specifically, violent crime and crimes related to the abuse of public trust.
