Prompted by a scathing HUD Office of the Inspector General audit – “The Management and Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Port Arthur, Tx., Failed to Exercise Their Fiduciary Duties” – and a subsequent follow-up report from HUD regional director Daniel Rodriguez, the housing authority board has been holding regular meetings to discuss the entity’s lack of compliance with the federal funding agency.

Suspects arrested on Grand St.

Police attempt to pry unknown substance from suspect's mouth

Beaumont police arrested two suspects Thursday, Sept. 20, near Grand Street for possession of a controlled substance, among other charges. 

After pulling over a Ford Crown Victoria near downtown Beaumont on Grand Street, police placed suspects in handcuffs while they searched their vehicle. Upon closer inspection of the suspects, police say they noticed something in a male suspect's mouth. 

One female officer told the man, "Spit it out!" as she placed her hands on the man's throat.

Oil and gas money freed up for use on city streets

Beaumont could be at least $47.8 million richer, pending the approval of an FAA exemption allowing the city to use royalty money from oil and gas underneath the Municipal Airport for city street projects.
