Gregg Ruth has been creating designer jewelry for three decades, with stores in New York City and California. He made one of his regular trips to Southeast Texas and Louisiana, visiting Nederland Jewelers in Beaumont on Dec. 21 to meet with local collectors.

Ruth is well known for his colored stones, especially his pink and yellow diamonds. All of his pieces are unique and issued in a limited edition. 


A Nederland house caught fire on Thursday, Dec. 15, near the intersection of Detroit Avenue and Gage Avenue.

"We received a call at 9:12 this morning, we were here within five minutes," Nederland assistant fire chief Terry Morton said. Upon arrival, he said the crew observed "heavy fire showing out of the front side of the house, through the front window."


Southeast Texans have a long-standing history of supporting service men and women, and numerous groups around the area are preparing to celebrate those brave individuals in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 12, Nederland, Port Neches, and Groves Fire Departments responded to a house on fire in the 200 block of 17th Street. The occupant evacuated the building as firefighters arrived, according to a statement.

All firefighters called out to the scene reported back to the station safely.

The house fire is still being investigated.

PGA golf pro Kurt Picard, charged with two counts of sexual assault of a minor, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 13, at his home in Nederland. Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine stated in an email that the victim is 15 years old.

Police in Nederland report a 2-year-old child died from drowning after he apparently snuck outside his home and entered the family pool on Aug. 1.

The Ruxpins

The Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting its annual “Celebrate Independence Day” on Monday, July 4, beginning at 7 p.m. with a live concert from the local Americana rock act The Ruxpins at the Riverfront Pavilion.

At 9 p.m. an unbelievable fireworks show will light up the Orange sky. The event is free and there will be plenty of kids events, snow cones, drinks and more. No pets are allowed.

Junior Achievement of the Golden Triangle held its biannual Finance Park event May 17-20 at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur. The four-day event centered around local middle and high school students working closely with area businesses in an effort to teach the students how to manage finances. The goal of the event is to help students become better prepared to handle financial situations as adults.
